Uganda Under Total Lockdown…

It seems Ugandans are good at predicting the future.Prior to President Museveni’s address to the Nation regarding Covid 19,many had already anticipated a total which was duly served on a silver platter.

While giving out his speech on Covid 19 at Nakasero yesterday evening, President Museveni made a number of revisions to the directives regarding Covid 19.To summarize it all the President put in place a total lockdown.

“It is observed that some sections of the public are not
adhering to the curfew hours (2100 Hrs to 0530 Hrs).
Directive:
(a) As such, the curfew time throughout the
country is pulled back to 1900Hrs to 0530
Hrs. All human beings except security and authorized personel.”

Furthermore, the President shut down all public and private means of transport. This is in revision to the directive that allowed these means of transport to move within districts. This has been changed due to people devising means to outwit enforcement officers by moving up to border districts and cross over on foot just to board other transport means.

On the issue of schools, this is what was said: Testimonies from credible sources indicate that schools had been deliberately silent
about infections among students due to fear of
closure.

For that matter therefore, schools are expected to remain closed up to at least July 19,2020 when the 42 days Lockdown is over. This left all Finalists and Candidates in Educational institutions almost heart broken. These had hoped they would be allowed to go back to school.

To date, the country has registered a total of 68,778
COVID-19 cases; where 973 patients (Severe 894,
Critical 79) currently on active admission at both
private and public treatment facilities across the
country, and 42 deaths reported today. This brings
the reported total deaths to 542.(As of June 18,2021).

Finally, the President ended his address by assuring Uganda that “these
are urgent and temporary, but extra-ordinary
measures, which we as the Nation must jointly and
fully embrace to protect and preserve our lives, our
ways of life, the way we live, and our future.”
